Grip Strength
Grip Info
The grip strength
test measures the
muscular strength of
the upper
extremities. There
is a strong
correlation between
grip strength and
overall upper body
strength. Strength
training is an
important component
of a physical
fitness program. Not
only can it help
muscles become
stronger, but it can
also improve tone,
appearance and
endurance. This can
help increase
energy, help avoid
injury, help
individuals perform
daily activities and
improve athletic
performance.
There is a strong
correlation between
grip strength
and body strength.
Simply squeeze our
machine to find out
how “strong” you
are.
Program encourages
the addition of
strength training as
well as aerobics as
part of an overall
fitness program.
Educational
materials and
counseling included.

Aerobic
Assessment
Guidelines
The 3-minute step
test is a test used
to measure aerobic
fitness. It involves
stepping up and down
on a 12-inch box for
up to 3 minutes at a
standard step rate
of 96 bpm.
Working with a
metronome, a step
test or, when
available treadmill
or stationary
bicycle, is used to
measure your
cardiovascular
endurance. Our
trained coach checks
resting heart rate,
pulse ,blood
pressure and target
heart rate.
The
purpose of the Step
Test is to measure
the heart rate in
the recovery period
following three
minutes of stepping.

Body Mass Index
BMI Info (PDF)
BMI
stands for
Body Mass Index.
It is used a measure
of body fat in
adults and help
assess whether you
are at risk for
weight-related
health problems. A
healthy BMI for
adults is between
18.5 and 22.9.I
BMI values DO NOT
APPLY TO children,
pregnant women,
people with muscular
build (little body
fat) i.e. athletes,
elderly and those
who have lost a lot
of muscle mass.
In recent years, the
body mass index
(BMI) has become the
medical standard
used to measure
overweight and
obesity.
BMI is a direct
calculation based on
height and weight,
and it is not
gender-specific. BMI
does not directly
measure percent of
body fat, but it
provides a more
accurate measure of
overweight and
obesity than relying
on weight alone.
BMI is not a Perfect
system, because
(e.g.) very muscular
people may fall into
the "overweight"
category when they
are actually healthy
and fit. But it's a
useful pointer for
most people. Offered
free* with Heart Screen's
CORE programs and
fitness testing.

Hip - Waist Ratio
- Apple or Pear
Hip Waist Info (PDF)
Very simple.
Painless, except for
the results.
Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR)
looks at the
relationship between
the differences in
the measurements of
your waist and hips.
Measurement is done
with tape measure
(waist - at or below
navel) hip-where
buttocks are the
largest). Can be
self-administered as
part of a health
assessment or
independently
presented.
Waist-to-hip ratio a
more important risk
factor than just
being overweight.
According to the
American Heart
Association, it is
healthier to be pear
shaped (for your mid
section to be
smaller than your
hips) than
apple-shaped (for
your mid section to
be bulky). Doctors
are concerned with
not only how much
fat a person has but
also where the fat
is on the body.
Abdominal obesity
is a component of the Metabolic Syndrome when a
waist circumference over 102 cm (40 in) in men and
over 88 cm (35 inches) in women. |

Frame Size
How to determine frame size
Bone structures vary in size and density from person
to person. Equally obviously men and women have
different structures. Bone mass and muscle mass all
play a part in determining your optimal weight.
