Aunt Annie's Pesto Sauce

 
Ingredients:

2 cups fresh basil leaves

1/2 cup virgin olive oil

4-6 cloves of garlic, minced

2T pignoli nuts or walnuts

1/2 cup Parmesan cheese  

Water or low sodium chicken broth, as needed

     
Directions:  
  1. Blend leaves in blender. Gradually adding oil, garlic and nuts.

  2. Add a little water if it gets too thick.

  3. At final blending add cheese. More water or broth if necessary if it is too thick. [Use the pasta water]

Serve over your favorite pasta with a tossed salad, wine and Italian bread. Don't forget the candles and music.

     
Notes:   Portion size 1-2 tablespoons of thick sauce, thinned with water or low sodium chicken broth
