Aunt Annie's Pesto Sauce
2 cups fresh basil leaves
1/2 cup virgin olive oil
4-6 cloves of garlic, minced
2T pignoli nuts or walnuts
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
Water or low sodium chicken broth, as needed
Blend leaves in blender. Gradually adding oil, garlic and nuts.
Add a little water if it gets too thick.
At final blending add cheese. More water or broth if necessary if it is too thick. [Use the pasta water]
Serve over your favorite pasta with a tossed salad, wine and Italian bread. Don't forget the candles and music.
